Magnolia is a town in Kent County that is part of the Dover Metropolitan Statistical Area. At the 2010 US Census, the Town’s population was around 230. It was founded in 1885 by citizens within the Murderkill Hundred, who decided to make the boundaries circular to represent brotherhood. According to folklore, the Town was founded close to the St. Jones River because residents depended on the river, but also wanted to escape the mosquitoes that were there because of the river. Magnolia is home to 6 National Register of Historic Places locations – The John B. Lindale House, Matthew Lowber House, Gov. George Truitt House, and three archaeological sites.
