Milton is a town in Sussex County, on the Delmarva Peninsula. The region was first settled by English colonists in 1672, but was only officially named Milton, after the English poet John Milton, in 1807 (prior to 1807, the town was known by various names). At the 2010 US Census, the town’s population was about 2,580. Milton is part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware- MSA and is part of the rapidly growing Cape Region.

It is dedicated to “increasing public understanding and appreciation of the history of Milton and the Broadkill Hundred.” In order to do this, the Society collects and preserves anything about and involving Milton and the Broadkill Hundred.
The Milton Public Library – The Library’s mission is to provide Milton residents with free access to materials, programs, and services in a friendly, helpful, and family oriented environment. Additionally, the Library seeks to enhance the Milton community’s overall quality of life.
